Climate: Quito enjoys year-round mild temperatures, with an average of 19°C (66°F) in the afternoon and an average night-time low of 10°C (50°F).  October through May is considered to be winter while June through September is the summer period.

Considered to be one of the most well-preserved Spanish colonial cities in the Americas, Quito is a place filled with beauty, history and culture.  The capital city of Ecuador has many wonderful attractions, and it also reportedly has more than 80 Spanish language schools.  Some of the most popular sites frequented by tourists include La Compañía de Jesús (Church of the Society of Jesus), which exemplifies the grandeur of Latin American Baroque architecture.  Most of the artwork and paintings found inside the church are from the Quito School of Art. 

For panoramic views of the city, head to El Telefériqo, a cable-car which transports visitors up Volcán Pichincha (13,280 ft).  Once reaching the top, the modern observation deck has an oxygen bar, due to the high altitude. For those who are interesting in learning about Ecuadorean history, the Museo Nacional del Banco Central del Ecuador offers visitors a comprehensive look at how the country evolved.  There are archaeological, as well as art exhibits from the colonial to the contemporary periods.  Finally, after a long day of sightseeing, La Plaza de la Independencia (or La Gran Plaza) is the perfect place to unwind and rest your feet. Although it is second to Guayaquil, in terms of its population, Quito has no shortage of fascinating attractions to for visitors to choose from.
